Ladies and Gentleman, it’s time for another 3D printer face-off, where we pit printer against printer to see how they hold up against a little competition. Today’s contenders are the FlashForge Creator Pro and the UP! Plus 2. How will they fare, and who will come out on top? We’re about to find out.
FlashForge Creator Pro Printing Specifications
The FlashForge Creator Pro can build objects with maximum dimension of approximately 8.9 inches in length, 5.7 inches in width, and 5.9 inches in height for a total build volume of about 300 cubic inches. The printing nozzles on the Creator Pro are 0.4 mm, and takes 1.75 mm ABS or PLA filament. The adjustable resolution works best within the 100-300 micron range.
UP! Plus 2 Printing Specifications
The UP! Plus 2 can accommodate prints with maximum dimensions of approximately 5.5 inches in length, 5.5 inches in width, and 5.3 inches in height, bringing the total build volume to about 160 cubic inches. Unlike the dual extruder Creator Pro, the Plus 2 has a single 0.4 mm extrusion nozzle, which takes both ABS and PLA 1.75 mm filament. With the Plus 2, you can expect to reach resolutions between 150 and 400 microns.
FlashForge Creator Pro vs UP! Plus 2 Construction Features
Now that we’ve covered the printing basics, let’s move on to some of the construction features of each model.
The FlashForge Creator Pro features a metal frame construction with 10 millimeter guide rods for precise z-axis movement, and acrylic covers for full enclosure of the printing chamber. The printing surface is a 6.3 millimeter aviation grade aluminum plate, which creates a completely flat surface that is highly heat resistant for a surface that will remain smooth for printing.
The UP! Plus 2 also features an all metal frame with metal guide rods and precision side bearings for stable movement. As opposed to the Creator Pro, the Plus 2 has an open print chamber with a heat and wind shield on the extrudes to help prevent injuries. The 3D printer also redirects cold air to help create a smooth finish on freshly printed layers. The Plus 2 has a metal printing surface, and comes with a perforated cell board for printing.
FlashForge Creator Pro vs UP! Plus 2 Compatibility and Connectivity
Both the Creator Pro and the Plus 2 are set up for a tethered USB connection, which means that you can hook them up to your computer directly. The Creator Pro can also read printing instruction onboard, via an SD Card. Just load the instructions onto your card (which comes included) and slip it into the SD slot on the printer.
Both printers read .STL, which is the standard file format for design files. The Creator Pro can also read G-Code directly.
FlashForge Creator Pro vs UP! Plus 2 3D Printer Victor
As you can see, both printers are worthy contenders at very comparable prices. Which earns the victor’s title will depend on which features work best for your 3D printing purposes.
