New Matter MOD-t 3D Printer Review Basics

So, what can you expect from a sub $500 printer that takes minimalist design to a whole new level? As it turns out, quite a bit. The print area measures a roomy 6x4x5-inch, which is around average for the price point. Print speeds max out around 80mm/s, but in reality you’ll be printing between 30-50mm/s if you care at all about quality. Similarly, resolutions impressively range from 50-400 microns, but most prints should be set at or above 200 microns for best results. Discover more in this New Matter MOD-t 3D printer review.

One of the MOD-t 3D Printer’s best features is its WiFi connectivity. This is a rare feature even for top end printers, and makes printing even easier for beginners. Printing is managed exclusively through New Matter’s web interface. Notably, the MOD-t 3D Printer can only print with PLA filaments and does not include a heated print bed.

New Matter MOD-t 3D Printer Review Pros

Reliability and Ease of Use

When you get your first 3D printer, the last thing you want to do is spend hours calibrating the build plate, fixing extruder jams, and learning a whole new computer program. The folks at New Matter clearly understand this and give you dependable, easy-to-use tools to get the job done. From start to finish, almost everything about this printer is automatic. Just choose the file you want to print and everything from bed leveling to extruder temperature is set for you. Extruder jams are rare, the bed is perfectly leveled every time, and the software is simple enough for anyone to learn.

Sleek Design

3D printers are a fairly new technology and companies tend to take a few liberties with their designs. While most 3D printers have a futuristic or hard mechanical look, the MOD-t is decidedly reserved. The clean white base looks great on any desk, and we love that the print space is enclosed by the all clear top. The lid protects your prints while leaving your print in full view. The MOD-t is also extremely quiet.

While other 3D printers will run you out of the room with their noise, the MOD-t is about as loud as someone shuffling a deck of cards.

New Matter MOD-t 3D Printer Review Cons

Unheated Print Bed

The MOD-t’s cold print bed is the only thing keeping it from being the perfect entry-level 3D printer. While prints stick very well to the included plate, you’re limited to PLA filaments only. Plenty of people print exclusively in PLA, so this won’t be a problem for everyone. Still, other printers in this price range, like the QIDI Technology X-One, have better versatility.

New Matter MOD-t 3D Printer Review Verdict

There are a ton of options these days when it comes to simple, cheap 3D printers for beginners. In our opinion, the MOD-t 3D Printer is one of the entry-level market’s most polished and reliable offerings.

It may not have the filament versatility or the advanced file modification tools experienced makers expect, but its simplicity makes it perfect for casual users. We also think this is an ideal choice for children and classrooms thanks to the enclosed but fully visible build space. This is an excellent plug-and-play 3D printer that anyone can use.
