The Dreamer Basics
Before we go into the pros and cons, let’s take a look at a few of the basics for this FlashForge model. This 3D printer has exterior dimensions of aproximatel 19 x 15.7 x 13.2 inches. The Dreamer’s build volume reaches roughly 316.8 cubic inches, and the build envelope features dimensions of 5.5 Height x 9.1 Width x 5.9 Depth inches.
With the FlashForge Dreamer, your filament will be extruded via a 0.4 mm nozzle at a print speed of 72 to 189 inches per hour for ABS and 189 to 474 inches per hours for PLA.
The Dreamer Pros
Dual Extruder Printing
The FlashForge Dreamer is equipped with a dual extruder, which grants you the option to alternate between filaments without having to switch out the spool after each print, print a design using two different colors, or set up a print using two different types of filament, which is convenient for files that require support structures. You can even assign each extruder a different print job.
Dreamer Filament Compatibility
The FlashForge Dreamer is designed for optimized printing in PLA and ABS. If you want to end up with great PLA prints, just remove the top lid and open the front panel. For ideal ABS prints make sure all of the panel and door are securely closed, and the fans are turned off.
Planning on printing something a bit more intricate? No problem. The Dreamer is also designed to print PVA support filament, which you can easily remove from your part after printing. Just add water.
Fully Enclosed Printing Chamber
The FlashForge Dreamer features a high-end, plastic-alloy body that gives this 3D printer a consumer-ready, finished look and provides a fully enclosed printing chamber for a stable printing environment that eliminates temperature interference from the exterior environment. This means less warped filament and cleaner, more successful prints.
HD IPS Touch Screen Display
The FlashForge Dreamer is packed with plenty of tech, including the integrated 3.5” HD IPS touchscreen display for full-color, on-board navigation that is wireless and crystal clear.
Not only is the display easy on the eyes, it also has a range of language compatibility including English, traditional and simplified Chinese, and Japanese, which adds to its ease of use.
SD & Wi-Fi Connectivity
With an integrated SD slot and Wi-Fi connectivity. The Dreamer gives you plenty of ways to connect.
You will still have the option of setting up a physical connection via USB to transfer data from your computer to the printer, but if you crave the freedom of wireless printing, you can choose to transferring data between your computer and printer with the included 4GB SD card or directly through Wi-Fi, thanks to the 4GB built-in memory.
The Dreamer Cons
Closed Source Design
One point that I will make, here, is that the Dreamer is a closed-source design, which means that this 3D printer was not intended to be modified. Making after-market changes to the design, in order to customize it to your preferences, could void your warranty.
The FlashForge Dreamer 3D Printer Review Verdict
That being said, the FlashForge Dreamer’s user friendliness and readiness, out of the box, is a huge advantage for beginners. If you prefer to retain the freedom to customize or maker, FlashForge’s Creator X may be a better fit.
